JON DOWNING CHARITY EVENT

This is our third annual event and is bigger than the previous two. The event was planned with Jon and his wife Diane and we wanted to provide a way for more people to be involved. The sponsored walk and line dancing being part our additional plans for this year. Please take time to look through the full schedule and events. We would love for you all to get involved for this fabulous cause.

Very sadly, Jon lost his battle with Motor Neurone Disease in November 2018 but not after inspiring all those, including me, who knew him through his determination and love of meeting people even when critically ill. Jon was also passionate to support charities, specifically Motor Neurone Disease Association (MND) and Katharine House Hospice who support so many families in Stafford and the surrounding areas at their time of need. It is these charities and Stafford Rangers who Jon wanted to benefit from the event.

It’s been a great effort to get ready and I want to state on record the incredible support I have received from Stafford Rangers FC in the promotion of this event and I would also like to thank the representatives of KHH and MND organisations for their support and involvement.

In addition local company Lookers, The Gurkha’s and also Wolverhampton University in Stafford who at the time of writing have made so much possible for our marketing of this event and fund raising pot starting point through their donations.

Why I am so passionate about the Jon Downing Charity Event?

I knew Jon and that’s a very good reason indeed!! Also, like Jon, I strongly believe in people and communities still coming together for great causes – to share in something that is hard work and a real achievement as a result. If we get close to raising £10000, our target, then it will have been because lots of people chose to get out of the house and meet up with others. Sounds like a perfect JD day and if it would be good enough for him then that’s good enough for me. Enjoy!
