A goal in the 7th minute of added time put an end to Stafford Rangers’ FA Cup dreams for another year.
Rangers had taken the lead on the hour through a Kaiman Anderson penalty but Coalville struck back with a penalty of their own through Kieran Cook before the Coalville substitute slid in to score the late winner.
Rangers were missing Sam Bird, whose loan period had come to end, allowing Andy Burns a recall to the starting line up.
Rangers just about shaded a scrappy start but Coalville gradually got themselves into the game and Wes York produced the first serious effort on goal in the 12th minute, a shot that was pushed away for a corner by Joel Torrance.
A Joe Willis free kick almost lead to a goal for Rangers, the ball eventually falling to Aaron Braithwaite but his shot didn’t test the home keeper who gathered.
Torrance was called into action again as he kept out shots from Tim Berridge and Ashley Chambers.
Coalville were beginning to take greater control of the game as shots came in from Berridge and Joe Doyle-Charles before Shaw fired across the face of goal after Joe Dunne had lost possession.
Most of Rangers’ approach play was coming down the right hand side through Niah Payne but his participation came to a premature end when he picked up a calf injury just before half time.
Payne’s departure brought Tyreece Onyeka more into the game and the young winger went close to opening the scoring just before the interval when his shot struck the post after being released by Kaiman Anderson.
Coalville were first to show in the second half and looked set to score when Berridge got clear of Jake Moult only for Torrance to save with his legs.
But it was Rangers who were to strike first. Onyeka did well to take down a long ball as he competed with Alex Dean and Herve Pepe-Ngoma. The Stafford man was tripped as he went past the two defenders. Referee Matthew Tyers pointed to the spot and Anderson dispatched the penalty.
The home side made an immediate change replacing Ashley Chambers with Kieran Cook and the Coalville substitute made a telling impact as he ignited a new spark to his side.
Berridge got goal side of Ethan Stewart and lobbed Torrance only to see his effort land on top of the cross bar.
Torrance gifted the home side a chance to level the scores when he needlessly went for a ball near to the corner of his penalty area. Berridge got there ahead of Torrance and was brought down by the Stafford keeper. Cook calmly levelled from the spot with 15 minutes remaining. It was an error strewn passage of play as a lack of communication between Stewart and Simon Njaria near the half way line lead to the Coalville attack which resulted in the penalty.
From then on Coalville looked the most likely victors. Tom McGlinchey shot just over while two efforts from Shaw went just wide.
But, with a replay looming, Rangers had a chance of their own with a last minute corner. It produced nothing for the Boro but Coalville broke away and Cook slid in to snatch a dramatic winner.
