Hyde United 4-0 Stafford Rangers
League | 31 Aug 2019 Report by Phil Bennett
Attendance | 455
Few people in the 455 crowd at Ewan Fields today would have predicted the full-time score when the half time whistle blew. The first half that in the main was bossed by Rangers with Theo Bailey jones and Evan Garnett seeing a lot of the ball. The only problem was at times a failure to get a cross passed the first defender and when shooting our shots from Louis Briscoe and Jack Sherratt took deflections taking the sting out of the shots, but still needing good saves by the Hyde keeper. While the Hyde keeper was the busier of the two, Hyde came very close when on their first attack the ball just cleared the junction of post and bar. With the score level at half time things were looking promising for Rangers to get a favourable result.
Hyde came more into the game second half which saw Louis Briscoe booked for a foul to prevent the full back overlapping. Rangers still looked threatening and on 55 minutes what appeared to be a free header in the six-yard box fell to Jack Sherratt, but a poor connection saw the ball fall easily to the Hyde keeper. From the clearance Pratt and O’Brien broke quickly but Luke Jones was able to cover. Sadly, we failed to learn from that move because on 60 minutes Josh Green lost the ball well in the Hyde half and Hyde broke quickly and with players over, the ball was played to an unmarked Liam Tongue to drive the ball home for the first goal. Josh was then substituted by Joseph Berks and a few minutes later Louis Briscoe was replaced by Andy Haworth. Jack Sherratt was later replaced by Sam Coulson who was pushed into a midfield role. Alex Ray Harvey then lost out in a similar way to Josh, but this time Tongue’s break came to nothing. On 79 minutes Rangers failed to clear their lines and Dan O’Brien turned on the edge of the box to fire home Hyde’s second. Two minutes later Jack Dyche rose high to head in number three and end any chance of any Rangers revival. Luke Jones received our second booking in the game when being caught out in the right back position to prevent another Hyde break. The Hyde keeper then dropped a cross when under no pressure, but Joseph Berks could not find a shot on target or a Rangers player and danger was cleared. Things got worse for Rangers as full time approached as our man of the match Theo Baily Jones appeared to slip on the all-weather pitch and was receiving treatment for some time before being stretchered off with what is thought to be an achilles issue. In the time added on, and down to 10 men having used our subs, Hyde hit a 4th when Tom Prat was all alone at the far post to head in. Not the ideal day to drop to bottom of the league but there are plenty of games to come as we attempt to turn things around. However, at this stage in the season the games come thick and fast with our next game on Tuesday night at home to Basford and Theo now joins Jake and Tom on the Injury list.
Hyde: Luke Mewitt, Jacko Hardacre, Kyle Brownhill, Liam Tongue, Bailey Gooda, Jordan Fagbola, Tom Pratt, Cain Noble (Louis White), Dan Turner (Paddy Lane), Jack Dyche, Dan O’Brien (Joel Logan), subs not used Jamal Crawford, Oran Thompson
Stafford Rangers: Lewis King, Paul Bignot, Matthew Hill, Luke Jones, Dan Burns, Alex Harvey, Theo Bailey Jones, Josh Green (Joseph Berks), Evan Garnett, Louis Briscoe (Andy Haworth), Jack Sherratt (Sam Coulson), subs not used Josh Burns, Max Dixon
