Rangers Conference Winners V Rangers Legends

Rangers Conference Winners V Rangers Legends

Suggested £5 donation on entrance to the ground.

In 2017 Jon Downing who was the clubs president at the time and an ex-chairman and director was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND). He had been involved with SRFC for many years and was passionate about the club and the community he lived and worked in. We started a charity football match to support MND that year. The game was played between a  SRFC Legend side and the team that played in the conference league ( SRFC Legends )  during seasons 2006/2008.

Jon wanted this to be an annual event and it was repeated in April 2018 raising some £3,000 for the Charities MND and Katharine House Hospice (KHH). Jon’s condition deteriorated during 2018 and finally he lost his battle with the disease on 31st October  2018.

This is the original founding event for Jon’s vision and will remain so in the future. The players hold a special place in the Stafford Rangers supporter’s hearts and also club history for their achievements.

Quite simply put these lads still play for each other like they used to do and that was when they were all playing under Jon Downing as Chairman. We’ll continue to play for him!!
