Rangers got off to the perfect start with a goal in the 1st minute of the game from Alex Fletcher to make it 1-0 to the Boro, Rangers were in control for large parts of the first half and had a few chances to double their lead but they missed chances early on. Aston villa never really looked like causing rangers any problems. Fair play to the travelling support who made a lot of noise, rangers did however make it 2-0 just before the break in the 42nd minute when a shot from close range was pushed out by the keeper only for Joe Cuff to tap in the rebound 2-0 Rangers.
Second half The half time break saw more of the same of what we saw in the first half with rangers being by far the better side, the majority of the second half was rather uneventful. But the game was a decent workout for rangers they looked very solid defensively with some good off the ball organisation and the midfield seemed to control the game. Villa did come on strong for the final 10 minutes of the match but by then the damage was done. 2-0 was how the game finished.
We are now able to confirm that instead of travelling to Morpeth Town on the 14th August this first game of the season will now be played at Home at Marston Road, Kick Off 3.00pm.
Tickets will be available through our box office from Monday 2 nd August. We look forward to welcoming our visitors to Marston Road on what will hopefully be a great sunny August day when we can all enjoy football coming home on the first day of the season.
Well, it’s the big one, the one we’ve all been waiting for, the match against Hednesford. With the away team leading 1-0 from the first leg it was set to be a tense evening at Marston road.
1st Half Rangers started the better side and Hednesford’s defence really struggled with Rangers attacking play and in the 9th minute Rangers were awarded a free kick with Joe cuff stepping up to dispatch the ball hard & low down to the keepers right. After the goal went in the game continued to be dominated by Rangers with the Hednesford keeper making some great saves to keep the score at 1-0. However in the 34th minute Jon Moran got on the score sheet to make it 2-0 to Rangers, a great finish from the lad.
2nd Half It was Hednesford who started the second with a bang following a goal from their number 9 Reece Styche in the 46th minute to make it 2-1. Hednesford had a lot more of the ball in the second half and made it very difficult for Rangers to get the ball. The performance levels from Rangers seemed to drop for 10-20 minutes of the second half. During the latter stages of second half the game was stretched which allowed Rangers to get on the ball more and create chances. In the 80th minute Rangers sub Thomas Carr made it 3-1 following a header from close range.
3-1 was how it finished. A great win for Rangers – a fantastic performance – well done boys!
