Well done Joe

Well done Joe

Silver Star Joe does us proud

A big shout out to Joe Clarke who became a Silver Medalist at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The Kayak Cross star put in an amazing performance to clinch that coveted second spot and do Stafford proud.

The Stafford Rangers fan was recently invited to our Sponsors Night in pre-season, to talk at a gathering of current and future club sponsors and partners; but due to his hectic training couldn’t attend in person, which was understandable. However, his family attended where his father gave a very good monologue on Joe’s journey, and answered several questions from the audience on the night.

Sponsors Night

Well done Joe – you did us proud and we hope to see you at the Stan Robinson Stadium with your Silver Medal soon !

Stafford Rangers FC are proud to announce the signings of four new players, ahead of our NPL West Division 2024/25 campaign.

James McQuilkinExperienced midfielder James McQuilkin has signed following his departure from Hednesford Town. James has football league experience with Hereford and Walsall and has National League experience at Kidderminster Harriers, Torquay United and Telford United. He has been involved in several of our pre-season games, and has impressed in that central midfeld position.

Joe RobbinsAlso signing is 22 year old midfielder Joe Robbins, who featured for us in the number 10 shirt against Sutton Coldfield. Another Crewe Alexandra graduate, Joe has played for Nantwich, Altrincham, Ashton United and most recently on loan at Stalybridge Celtic.

Tyrone CadeauOur third signing is 20 year old midfielder/striker Tyrone Cadeau, another triallist against Sutton Coldfield wearing the number 11 shirt. Tyrone has represented Wales at youth level, although most recently Seychelles as a full international. With experience at Port Vale, Tyrone played over 30 games at Kidsgrove last season so is very familiar with this division.

Finally we can announce the signing of 20 year old right-sided defender/midfielder Jacob Edwards. With experience at Swansea as a youth player, Jacob played over fifteen games at Nantwich in his first spell there before turning in some excellent performances at Whitchurch.

We expect more additions over the next week or so ahead of the big kick off at Stalybridge.

On the injury front AJ Leitch-Smith has not featured in pre-season having picked up a foot injury in training. It is hoped that he will return to training shortly and finally Caspar Hughes is yet to join up with the squad having suffered a recurrence of the ankle injury which has sidelined him for several months.

Welcome to the Boro James, Joe, Tyrone and Jacob !

Pre-Season

Keeping the fans up to date

We thought it would be useful to set out our pre-season objectives to provide clarity. Here is a summary of events to date:

The prime objective this summer has been to re-build the squad to ensure we have a competitive squad and team come the first game at Stalybridge on Saturday 10th August.

We have retained some players, lost a couple who we would like to have kept and released several others. We have targeted players, some of whom we have signed, some of whom we have lost for financial reasons and some with whom we remain in communication accounting for their current circumstances.

We will only sign players who show a true desire to play for the club and those we believe are good enough.

At Stafford Town we had twenty-seven players available for selection, allowing a maximum of 45 minutes per player to improve fitness and reduce the risk of injury. The following Saturday at Telford Town we had twenty-two players available, with some players getting 60 minutes game time. At home versus Crewe game time was increased to 75 minutes for some. We would like to use the first 45 minutes of any pre-season friendly by playing our strongest squad, but this has not always been possible due to player commitments, holidays, or injury.

This is frustrating but a fact of life.

We travelled to Brocton with a severely depleted squad, missing key players and whilst our performance overall was poor, Brocton fielded a very competitive team and were deserved winners, we wish them well for the forthcoming season.

Results have not been to expectation and neither have performances, bar the Crewe game. This we know is not what fans want to see but is the reality of pre-season in non-league. Whilst we expect that poor performances and results will not help us, our sole, selfish objective is to ensure we give all players/trialists and youth the opportunity to impress.

We know that we now have a key core squad of 14 with more newcomers due at training this evening and on Saturday.

We expect to announce additional signings over the next couple of weeks to finalize our squad capable of competing at the right end of the table.

We must stick together!
