Stopper Stays at the Boro

Cameron BelfordWe can announce that Cameron Belford has confirmed his loyalty to the club by agreeing to sign for the 2024/25 season.

Having had time to consider offers closer to his Warwickshire home, Cameron believes that loyalty and affinity to the club override all other considerations and he cannot wait to be part of the new squad being built by Dave Cooke, as we look ahead to a positive season in the NPL West.

Cameron has a firm belief that we will be competing at the right end of the table and the style of football should bring a buzz factor back amongst the fans, who he believes will provide crucial backing next season.

Cam commented on his decision to stay:- “A massive factor in my decision to stay was the club itself and the people. I personally feel I’ve had two good seasons at the club and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time here. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have offers elsewhere but the way the club has been with me since I walked through the door I wanted to show some loyalty and stick by them in return even with the drop in the level.”

When asked about the club, he also stated:- “The club on a whole is a great club and I mentioned this in a conversation with the gaffer when I told him I was staying. I’ve been at plenty of clubs throughout my career where they are quick to mess you around and be done with you but this club isn’t one of them. There are people working tirelessly behind the scenes to make it work and it’s great to see they care. As for the fans I can only speak as I find and they have been brilliant with me from the start and long may it continue.”

Welcome back Cam !

Update on the Squad

Where we’re at

Since the end of the season, Dave Cooke and Dale Belford have been having and continue to have, discussions with several players from last season’s squad who they would like to retain. Without doubt, other clubs are offering some of these players terms and we will communicate with you once agreements have been reached or destinations are known.

Retained List

In the meantime, we can confirm that Andy Burns, Sean Cooke and AJ Leitch-Smith have committed their futures to the club, and we thank them for their loyalty.

Leaving the club for certain are Joe Willis, Tyreece Onyeka and Ethan Morgan. We believe that Joe Willis has agreed terms to join Alvechurch FC, whose hybrid model is as close to being full-time as possible and we would like to wish Joe all the best with the move and thank him for two seasons at the Boro. Both Tyreece and Ethan leave with our best wishes in pursuit of other options.

For the record loan players George Burroughs, Owen German, Connor Heath, Isaac Lee and Kian Taylor returned to their parent clubs at the end of the season and we thank them all for their time here.

New Signings

On a positive note, we are delighted to confirm the signing of 28 year-old central defender Oliver Jepson, following his departure from Bury FC. Oliver has been a long-term target for manager Dave Cooke and we have secured his signature despite firm interest from several Step 3 & 4 clubs. Oliver was captain of Kidsgrove Athletic at the start of last season but moved on to sign for Bury FC, with whom he finished last season.

Also signing is 30 year -old midfielder Caspar Hughes. Caspar is well known to Dave having been captain at Nantwich Town FC for over five seasons. But for injury Caspar would have joined the Boro last season, but now fully fit is eager to get back at it.

Finally, we can announce the signing of striker Dan Cockerline, another familiar face to Dave have spent time at Nantwich Town FC. After leaving Nantwich, Dan had a brief spell at Newcastle Town FC last season before ending the season at Warrington Rylands FC.

Interviews with each of our new signings will follow in due course.

Mark Evans (known to some fans as Winston) joins the board with immediate effect and Chairman John Bromley states ‘We are delighted to get Mark on the team as we need some new blood and feel he will fit in really well and help us develop some new initiatives providing more support and experience’.

Mark has been supporting the club over a 20 year period but more actively during the past 5/6 years and will be a familiar face to fans within the stadium and social club on matchdays. He has many years’ experience in business in both the building trade and for the last 6 years operating a business in Rugeley where he sells Ribbons worldwide. In his little spare time, he is a member of the Rottweiler Welfare Association which he has supported for over 6 years.

He has been interested in local sports all his life and now wanted to get formally involved with grass roots non-league football at his beloved Rangers.

I recognise that this will be a challenge but I am up for the role and feel I can bring innovative ideas to the board and use my business and hospitality experience to deliver them as part of the club’s strategy going forward. I believe strongly in what the football club brings to the community, and I want to be a part of the Rangers set up. I am delighted to join the board’ states Mark.

We wish Mark the absolute best of luck for the future and warmly welcome him to the team!

We are delighted Mark has strengthened the board, but we are still looking for more directors to help.
